Uber driver arrested on peeping Tom charge in Athens tied to more crimes

An Uber driver arrested last week on charges of peeping Tom has since been tied to more than a dozen additional crimes.

Patrick McElroy, 30, was arrested on charges of peeping Tom, loitering or prowling and obstruction on Sept. 29.

Athens-Clarke County police said he broke into a house where University of Georgia sorority members live and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of property.

Detectives were then able to tie McElroy to a separate peeping Tom and burglary that occurred in April from video surveillance.

Police announced Monday that since the arrest, McElroy has been tied to four additional peeping Tom cases, 16 more burglary cases and five larceny-thefts.

Police said majority of the crimes occurred at a University of Georgia sorority.  Some cases go as far back as 2013, and police said detectives believe the more recent cases stem from McElroy working as an Uber driver.

A spokesperson for Uber told Channel 2's Tom Regan after the arrest that the company is investigating the charges against the driver.
