Woman reunites with firefighter who saved her life

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman reunited with some DeKalb County firefighters who saved her life when she suffered a heart attack.

Often those who protect and serve like firefighters at Ellenwood’s station No. 4 don't get to meet those they help. But Sunday, they got a surprise "thank you" from one of their patients who was in a life or death situation.

The last time Gladys Moore was at the station, she wasn't walking in the front door. She was technically dead.

"Just amazing how I’m able to sit here and speak," she said.

Moore and her family came back Sunday to thank those on C-shift for saving her life back in May.

She was at home about 10 minutes away.

"She said she was having chest pains. ‘I need to go to the hospital right away,'" recalled her husband, John.

As he drove, she knew she wouldn't make it and told him to pull into the fire station.

She wasn't even able to make it out of the car, while her husband ran up to the station, picked up an emergency phone to call for help, and started beating on the door.

Davis was the first to get to her and with the help of others, including an ambulance and doctors, they kept her alive for 45 minutes after her heart had stopped.

The firefighters, who sometimes deal with very different outcomes, are happy to meet Moore face to face.

"A lot of times in this job, it's looked at like a thankless job, doing what you're supposed to do, but when you get someone give you kudos, pat on the back, it makes you feel worthwhile," Davis said.

After two months, Gladys Moore is now recovering and very much alive.

"But God wasn't ready for me. They brought me back. It's amazing," she said.
