The International Olympic Committee announced that not only elite breakdancing, or breaking, will be joining the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, so will skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing, The Associated Press reported.

Breaking will be held at a downtown Paris venue.

The three latter events were supposed to start at the Tokyo Games but the 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to CNN.

President of the World DanceSport Federation called the move historic for dancers around the world, CNN reported.

The Paris 2024 games will have 16 men and 16 women, called B-boys and B-girls, to compete in one on one showdowns.

The move to add breakdancing and other urban events was made to open the Olympics to a younger audience, the AP reported.

To add events, some events had to be cut, including some weightlifting and boxing events, according to the AP.

Other events that were considered to be added including ocean rowing and parkour. Other events were changed like the men’s 50-kilometer race walk will be replaced with a mixed-gender team event, the AP reported.

Meanwhile, Tokyo 2020 is set to start July 23 and organizers expect the stands to have spectators.
