Stafford expressed an interest in being traded after the season ended, and the team responded by tabling the idea until a new general manager and coach were hired, the AP reported last week.
The Lions drafted Stafford out of UGA with the No. 1 draft pick in 2009. He still had two years left on a 5-year, $135 million.
Stafford will now get to play for Marist graduate and Atlanta native Sean McVay in Los Angeles.
