ATLANTA — A nonprofit that helps disaster victims is reporting tens of thousands of dollars worth of stolen tools.
Thieves stole power tools, batteries, ladders and other equipment belonging to ToolBank USA that were locked in a 53 foot trailer. The tools were meant for tornado victims in Tennessee to help them rebuild their homes and businesses.
ToolBank USA CEO Patty Russart said the tools accounted for nearly 20% of its inventory, costing nearly $73,000.
“It’s just very disappointing they decided to steal from a charity who is really helping other people whose lives have been destroyed,” said Russart.

The trailer was parked because of stay-at-home orders issued in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nonprofit is working with police and its insurance company to catch the thieves and recover the stolen tools.
“Having to replace these tools takes away time and effort and resources that could be redirected and reallocated to other places,” said ToolBank USA chief program officer Trey Bearden.
ToolBank USA brands its tools with a blue logo or the word “tool bank." If you see any of these tools, please contact the police.
