Own a private island off the coast of Georgia, for a lot less than you might think

Imagine your own private island, an island that included a luxurious lodge...

Thousands of travelers frequent the Georgia coast each year. With trips to St. Simons, Jekyll, Tybee and Sea Island, it’s a popular destination.

But those aren’t the only islands that dot the Georgia coastline. Dozens of other islands line the map. Some of them you might have heard of. There’s Little St. Simons Island, Blackbeard Island, St. Catherine’s Island and Ossabaw Island to name a few. Others, you probably haven’t. Individual people own a handful of private islands in southeast Georgia. And now, two of them are for sale.

Eagle Island sits just off the coast of Darien. It earned its name from the abundance of eagles that call the area in and around the island home. The island totals 155 acres, with 145 of those being marshland and the other 10 suitable for everyday living.

Current owner Andy Hill built a main lodge on the property and has been running it as a private island rental for years. Hill owns several other private islands in the vicinity, including May Hall Island where he hopes to retire to one day.

What can you do on a private island? Recent guests enjoyed breakfast on the wraparound porch while watching the sunrise, fishing from the dock, catching and cooking blue crab in the outdoor kitchen, a game of horseshoes by the lake, boating, kayaking, wildlife watching and spending the evenings in the hot tub in front of the fireplace.

Hill listed Eagle Island for sale. He hopes another land steward will come to enjoy the property like he has. The sale includes the private island, the fully-furnished lodge, a lot on Sapelo Island which provides the new owner access to six miles of private beaches and he’s throwing in Escape Island, too. It’s a quarter-acre private island on the other side of Eagle Island. The sale includes a pontoon boat and a pair of kayaks. It’s listed at $1.95 million.

Hill listed another private island for sale, too. Queens Island is a 76 acre island with seven acres of buildable high ground. It features 3/4 of a mile of Atlantic Ocean frontage. Queens Island sits just south of Sapelo Island. It’s listed for $275,000.
