Singer/songwriter Jason Mraz is speaking candidly about his sexuality in a new interview with Billboard published Thursday.
The 41-year-old who has belted out songs like "I'm Yours," "I Won't Give Up" and "The Remedy," opened up to the outlet about what he calls "experiences" with males.
Speaking of a poem he penned for June's Pride Month, with the words "I am bi your side," Mraz said he didn't realize the line would be so revealing.
"Honestly, I didn't realize it was going to be so telling,” he admitted. “But I’ve had experiences with men, even while I was dating the woman who became my wife."
Mraz says those experiences caused him to question his sexuality, an inquiry for which his wife since 2015, Christina Carano, attempted to offer guidance.
"It was like, ‘Wow, does that mean I am gay?’ And my wife laid it out for me," he recalled to Billboard. "She calls it ‘two spirit,’ which is what the Native Americans call someone who can love both man and woman. I really like that.”
According to NBC News: "In many indigenous traditions, Two Spirit people are said to have both the spirit of a man and of a woman, and are able to travel freely between binaries."
The Grammy Award-winner has previously commented on being attracted to men, according to People magazine and The Advocate.
Mraz joins a list of celebrities who have recently talked about broader definitions of sexuality. "Westworld" actress Tessa Thompson said she finds both genders attractive in an interview with Net-A-Porter published at the end of June. In the interview, Thompson talked about "deeply" loving musician/actress Janelle Monae, without confirming a romantic relationship with the singer/actress, who came out as pansexual in an interview with Rolling Stone in April.
