26-year-old metro Atlanta man arrested after attempted contraband drop at GA state prison

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — A metro Atlanta man was arrested after deputies said he tried to deliver contraband to a Georgia State Prison.

The investigation began on Dec. 28. deputies said they were notified about a possible trespasser on Washington State Prison property.

A K9 quickly tracked down the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jerry Norman III, of Fairburn.

Washington County deputies said Norman had contraband intended for the prison.

He was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, trading with inmates, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute.

The sheriff’s office said Norman is also being charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trading with inmates, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit a felony from a previous investigation dealing with an attempted contraband drop.

“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections remain committed to working together to prevent the delivery of illegal contraband at Washington State Prison, ensuring the safety of both the community and the prison environment,” Sheriff Joel Cochran said.
