1 dead in driveby shooting that injured 4, including 6-year-old

ATLANTA — Police say a man was shot to death in a drive-by shooting that left three others wounded, including a 6-year-old boy.

They identified the victim as Eugene Roberts and say he died at Grady Memorial Hospital just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday as a result of his injuries. They say he was shot in the head.

Roberts was one of four people who was shot in the apparent drive-by incident, which happened on Arthur Langford Jr. Place Southwest, police said.

Two of the victims are in stable condition and being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital. A 6-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet on his head. He is being treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, according to Atlanta police. He is expected to make a full recovery.

No arrests have been made, police said. They are still investiging the shooting.

Channel 2’s Ryan Young talked with upset family members about the shooting Sunday.

“It’s not fair and something needs to be done,” a family member of the 6-year-old boy said.

She did not want to be identified because the shooters are still on the streets.

“I just think it’s outrageous these guys just riding around shooting. My dad (has) been on this corner for over 60 years,” the woman told Young.

Neighbors told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach they think the shooter may have hit the wrong house.

"Right now we're interviewing witnesses and canvassing the neighborhood and trying to develop leads to find out who did this," said Sgt. Jarvis Jackson with the Atlanta Police Department.

So far police have not released any description of the shooter or what kind of car the shooter was in.

It is the second shooting on the street within a week. On Thursday, gunfire left a man burning in his car before he died, after slamming into an apartment.

Now family members of the boy say they do not want to be caught in the crossfire.

“What do you say to the young boy? I don’t know how it got to this point, where a child can’t even go to bed and go to sleep. I don’t know what to tell them,” the boy’s family member told Young.
