None — ATLANTA -- Police are investigating a shooting and attempted carjacking that led to a crash and the death of 2 people, including a veteran 911 dispatcher.
Nikita Thomas died in the crash. Her boyfriend died from the shooting that caused it.“Kiki, that was my Boo. That was her nickname. She did not deserve this,” Thomas’ uncle, Richard Butler, said.
The pain of losing Kiki is close to her family’s heart but they told Channel 2’s Ryan Young, they are hoping for justice.“Miss my baby. Good girl, special person. Never did nothing to harm no one,” Thomas’ mother, Makita Thomas, said.
“This is devastating. She was a highly loved member of our family and we (are) so proud of her, Thomas’ uncle, Calvin Brittian said.
Thomas, 34, a mother of a 13-year-old son and a 9-year veteran 911 dispatcher for the Atlanta Police Department, died as she and her boyfriend tried to escape a robbery.“My daughter, she loved her son, he loved her and still do. It’s going to kill him inside,” Makita Thomas said.
Police said the couple left the Greenbrier Mall late Sunday. When Nikita and her boyfriend got to Susan Lane, men with guns came up to their SUV, demanding cash, police said.

Police said the SUV then slammed into a MARTA bus, killing Thomas on impact. Her 13-year-old son, who was also in the car, was taken to a hospital, authorities said.“For him to see his mom leave like that -- as you can see, he's extremely distraught,” Brittian said.
“Bring this home. We know you out there. We know somebody, you out there, my daughter did not deserve that,” Makita Thomas said.
