DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who caused a fatal crash on Highway 78 near Hugh Howell Road in DeKalb County.
It happened on Aug. 12 when an orange car driving in the shoulder lane cut over quickly, clipped a black truck and sent it across the road into the median. The passenger inside the truck was badly injured and taken to the hospital. He died the next day.
As the truck was crossing the road, it clipped Amanda Jarvis’ silver Mustang. Jarvis and her 15-year-old daughter were inside. She was able to regain control and pull to the side of the road.
“We’re lucky,” she said. “The truck driver hit the wall and started to come back across 78. My daughter was crying, screaming. I told her to hang on."

Investigators tell us Dwayne Weaver was driving the black truck. Forest Kelly, 61, was his passenger.
“Very scary. The driver was up underneath the steering wheel, the passenger was bleeding. It was very scary,” Jarvis said.
The driver of the orange Camaro took off. Police told
Friday that he now faces vehicular homicide charges. They are looking for him and his car. %

“We do have evidence, paint transfer on the bumper. We've collected that from the scene,” Det. Bryan Hawkins said.
Hawkins says the Camaro is a 2010 to 2013 and has an aftermarket running board and rear spoiler. He says the Chevy emblem is also unique.
“On this vehicle it's been blacked out. So the emblem’s black, which is another unique feature about this vehicle,” he said.
He says the Camaro likely doesn’t have a lot of damage, but would probably have evidence of the truck’s black paint.
Police say they are already receiving tips.
Police think the Camaro driver was on his nightly commute. They also think they may have narrowed down an area where he lives.
“Just come forward. I mean you've affected everybody's life. Just come forward,” Jarvis said.
