ATLANTA,None — Police are mounting a major operation to find leads in an unsolved murder in northeast Atlanta.
Decatur resident Antwion Full, 38, was killed Dec. 20. Investigators with the Atlanta Police Department said witnesses have been scarce.
The victim's fiancee, Javeta Johnson, told Channel 2's Carl Wills she believes the murder may have been a case of mistaken identity.
Johnson said her heart is heavy.
Full was a heavy equipment operator who was gunned down as he walked on Parkway Drive.
"He liked to tell jokes, play around," Johnson said. "That's the kind of man he was, joyful, didn't bother anybody."
Police said Full was in front of the Bedford Pines Apartments in the early morning hours of Dec. 20 when a black Pontiac Grand Prix drove up. Full exchanged words with the people inside and they fired eight times at him.
"It was a brutal murder," Johnson said. "He was shot about three or four times. (In) the back, the head, the shoulder."
"I think it was a case of mistaken identity," Johnson continued. "Because he doesn't bother anybody at all. He doesn't get into any trouble."
Johnson reached out to Willis and expressed her frustration with the progress in her fiancee's case
"The only time I received a call was when I contacted you all," she said.
Calls went out to APD's homicide division Tuesday. They said the case was not closed and was not cold.
Wednesday morning, they announced that they are orchestrating a tactical neighborhood canvass in response to the case. The operation is scheduled for Feb. 8.
Police said Crime Stoppers, the gang unit, mounted patrol, the homicide unit and others will play a role.
Johnson said she and her family will also be out.
"We're going to get out there and we're going to put flyers up and we're going to find out something, because this can't just be a justifiable murder," Johnson said.
