Former WSB-TV Reporter Dies At 32

ATLANTA — John Cater, a freelance reporter who worked at WSB-TV Channel 2, died Tuesday at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Cater was 32. No cause of death was listed.

In addition to working at WSB-TV in 2007-2009, Cater also worked at WXIA and WGCL.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Cater won an EMMY award in June 2009 for his live reporting on WSB-TV Channel 2.

Before coming to Atlanta, Cater worked in Jackson, Miss. and Pittsburgh.

Cater will be buried in Illinois, according to family members.

An active member of both the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists, Cater was remembered fondly on the AABJ Web site Wednesday.

"John's big smile, kind heart and young vibrant personality will be greatly missed," said the announcement of his death on the NAABJ site.
