CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. — One person was killed and a deputy was injured during a shooting in Catoosa County on Sunday.
At about 10:25 pm, deputies with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office and a Georgia State Patrol trooper responded to a 911 call about someone shooting a gun outside.
The deputies met with the 911 caller and learned that the shooting happened behind the 911 caller’s house.

Deputies and the trooper arrived at a home in the 600 block of Karen Drive in Ringgold, where they confronted Dameion Coonrod, 32, of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Coonrod tried to leave in a Genesis SUV.
A deputy fired a stun gun at Coonrod and Coonrod tried to drive away while the deputy was by the SUV.
Both deputies and the trooper fired their guns into the SUV, shooting Coonrod.
After the shooting, the SUV continued through the front yard and hit a tree and a house.
There was a woman in the passenger seat of the SUV during the shooting. She was not injured.
Coonrod was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.
A deputy was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
