HAZELHURST,Ga. — A Saturday night fire, left the Jeff Davis county EMA facility heavily damaged and its ambulance service crippled.

Sunday morning, Gov. Brian Kemp and his wife Marty were shown the heavily damaged building in Hazelhurst. It housed the emergency medical service, 9-1-1 services and the emergency management team.
According to the county, all of its ambulance’s and the county coroner’s vehicle were destroyed along with the 9-1-1 center. They say a mobile command center has been set up to help bring services back online, while teams from nearby Appling, Bacon and Coffee counties have been answering calls and sending ambulances when needed.

Late Saturday night, County Administrator Oakley G. Perry released a statement on Facebook:
“This evening, we got the devastating news that the Jeff Davis County EMA building was on fire. This building host the EMA, EMS, and 911,” he said. “In the past few hours, our fire and rescue team, sheriff’s office, and others came to the scene to support each other and stop the fire. All county ambulances are currently out of commission and 911 is down, but thanks to our friends in Appling, Bacon, and Coffee counties, 911 calls are being answered and ambulances are available to make calls,” Perry said.
Investigators are still on the scene and are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
