First sea turtle nest of the season hatches off coast of Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. — Research teams in Jekyll Island documented the first sea turtle nest to hatch in the state of Georgia.

The nest had 141 hatched eggs.

Video posted to Facebook shows the research team helping one of the little straggler hatchlings make it to the ocean.

Jekyll Island has broken its sea turtle nesting record already with 205 nests and there are still several more weeks to go.
