NEW ORLEANS — The Georgia Southern Eagles fell to the Sam Houston Bearkats 31-26 Thursday night in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl played inside Caesars Superdome.
On their first drive of the game with 12:09 to go in the first quarter, quarterback JC French threw an interception that was returned for 29 yards for a touchdown just three minutes into the game.
In the second quarter, French found Josh Dallas on a 17-yard touchdown pass to tie things up.

The Bearkats responded, going 75 yards down the field to retake the lead late in the second quarter.
Another interception by French put the Bearkats in position to score once again as they marched down the field on a short touchdown drive to take a commanding 21-7 lead with 3:09 left in the second quarter.
After both teams could not get their offense started initially in the second half, exchanging punts, the Eagles scored, making the score 21-16 after a failed two-point conversion.

In the end, the Eagles could not overcome five turnovers, four committed by French as the Bearkats scored 10 straight in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
The Eagles finish the 2024 season (8-5) .
