GEORGIA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged a Georgia woman with forgery and theft by taking.
The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the GBI on Aug. 8 after receiving a report that Melissa Mirick, 50, was involved in the misappropriation of funds from a Thomasville law firm.
Agents and investigators determined that Mirick was employed by the law firm’s office manager and had full access and control of their financial accounts.

The investigation revealed that for several years, Mirick moved money from the law firm to a contracting company that she and her husband owned.
The GBI estimates the final amount of the theft will be several million dollars.
Mirick was arrested and charged with eight felony counts of forgery in the third degree and one count of theft by taking. She was booked into the Thomas County Jail on Dec. 9.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected to be filed. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090.
