Georgia gas prices rise ahead of Hurricane Ian

GEORGIA — Gas prices in metro Atlanta spiked overnight, with concerns about Hurricane Ian and its potential impact on Gulf Coast refineries.

“What we are seeing in different cities across the state is between two-to five-cent increases a gallon in anticipation of the storm,” said AAA Georgia spokesperson Montrae Waiters.

Doraville is home to a variety of fuel terminals that serve northeast Georgia.

Because the current storm track shows Ian heading to Florida and away from refineries in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, there is limited concern of disruption of fuel supplies.

“There is no need to panic, there’s plenty of gas supplies in the state of Georgia.” said Waiters. Gas prices in Georgia are currently an average of $3.16 a gallon.

But AAA says they have heard reports of some gas stations in south Georgia price gouging, charging an additional 40 cents more per gallon.

Customers at a DeKalb gas station said they planned to fill up to avoid paying more after the hurricane hits.

“I have 10 trucks on the road, so I’m definitely worried about it,” said business owner Al Rozier.
