FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — Rome city police investigated a potential threat made on social media by a Rome Middle School student on Tuesday.
The student was detained by police after the threat.
“We take all threats to our schools seriously. There is a no-tolerance policy to anyone threatening violence or harm at a school. These threats are not jokes, and the Rome Police Department will take appropriate action,” Rome City Police Chief Denise Downer-McKinney said.

Rome City Schools said if you or someone you know is witness to a written or spoken threat of violence or destruction, please call 911 , the anonymous crime tip line at 706-236-5000, or the Rome Police Department at 706-238-5111.
