TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. — Police on Tybee Island are looking for a man they said stole a doorknob from the top of the island’s lighthouse.
Investigators said the man took the brass doorknob from the 155-year-old historic lighthouse on June 3.
The crew that takes care of the light house made a post about it on Facebook asking that the person responsible to please return the knob, “no questions asked.”

When they got no answer, police then got involved. The Tybee Island Police Department was able to get surveillance video showing the man stealing the door knob and putting it in his pocket.
“We’d like YOUR help in finding out exactly who he is, and if possible, recovering the stolen item. While it may seem like just a doorknob to some, to all those who love Tybee, it’s an important piece of the island’s history. We’d love to see it back in it’s rightful home,” the department said on in a post on Facebook.
Anyone with information about who the man may be is asked to call Tybee Island police at 912-786-5600.
