Sheriff’s Office warns about jury duty Bitcoin scam in Tift County

TIFT COUNTY, Ga. — The Tift County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about another Bitcoin scheme.

According to the sheriff’s office, some Tift County residents have received phone calls and text messages claiming they missed jury duty and threatening them with arrest if they don’t pay a fine using Bitcoin.

The scammers are even using the names of real Tift County deputies to try and fool potential victims.

Some people have received authentic-looking flyers in the mail threatening arrest and including instructions on how to pay them using a Bitcoin ATM.

Those flyers are from the Citizens Advocacy Group and the number that shows up on your phone is 229-258-2813, though that number could change.

The sheriff’s office says they will never call anyone or ask for payment for missed jury duty.
