VALDOSTA, Ga. — Prairie View A&M has a new head football coach as former Valdosta State head coach Tremaine Jackson heads to Texas to accept the same position with the Panthers.
On Saturday, the Blazers finished runner-up in the Division II National Championship against Ferris State, 49-14.

Jackson announced later that evening he was accepting the position as head coach at the Division I and Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) member.

During his tenure as head coach at VSU, Jackson boasts a 30-9 record, was named American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II National Coach of the Year and earned Co-Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year.
He guided the red and black to the program’s 11th Gulf South Conference title.

“Valdosta State, Blazer Nation and I would like to say thank you to Coach Jackson for the last three years,” VSU Director of Athletics Troy Katen said. “He has followed in the footsteps of many other head coaches who have continued to keep VSU and the Blazer football program as one of the premier Division II programs in the country. He has great student-athletes within the program and that has led to a special year. We wish Coach Jackson all of the best in his new journey and know that he will always be a Blazer!”
Jackson is the fifth different coach to lead the Blazers to the national title game which is the most all-time in NCAA Division II.
