MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia officials are investigating after a vehicle carrying medical supplies was involved in a car crash.

Around 6:49 a.m., on Monday, Monroe County deputies were called to a car crash on Highway 74.
When deputies arrived, they learned that a vehicle carrying medical supplies was being delivered to a hospital in Macon.
According to officials, the supplies are Technetinium 99M, a radioactive isotope used in medical imaging.

Monroe County authorities said it has a six-hour half-life before radiation is removed. Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) are at the scene and said it is non-hazardous to anyone in the area.
A radiation clean-up crew arrived at the accident. Highway 74 was shut down but has since reopened.
