John Lewis memorial to replace Confederate monument in the city of Decatur

Decatur, GA — Dekalb County commissioners unanimously voted to replace a controversial monument with a tribute to former Rep. John Lewis.

The location is the former site of the confederate monument called “The Lost Cause”. The monument, a frequent source of protest in the city of Decatur, was ordered to be placed in storage by a Dekalb County judge last summer.

“Because this location sits in DeKalb County, the City of Decatur, and in the congressional district which John represented for over 30 years, there could be no better location,” Commissioner Davis Johnson said.

The task force is taking ideas from artists for the project.
