Officials first responded to an alarm call Tuesday morning at the Stop & Shop convenience store. The building also is home to a package store and Wing City location.
Around 4:30 a.m., police said officers spotted a burglary suspect inside of the store. The officers surrounded the building and spotted one man crawling through the ceiling.
Gehlbach watched as the SWAT team deployed tear gas and pepper balls in an attempt to get him out of the building. Police and SWAT eventually got the man out safely and arrested him around 9:30 a.m.
Officers believed a second suspect may have been hiding and continued searching for hours, but only one arrest was made.
