ATLANTA — Police are still piecing together the events that led to a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in southwest Atlanta.
One of the men is dead; the other is in critical condition.
The Medical Examiner identified the man who died as Darius Gordon, 32, of Ellenwood.
A lot of the residents were home at the time of the shooting.
The one thing detectives know for sure is that the two men involved did not live in the complex, and Channel 2 investigative report Aaron Diamant found neighbors deeply concerned about the violence those visitors brought with them.
"People want to turn to violence, and it's just not good in our community," said neighbor Jessica Welch
Shots rang out at the sprawling McCoy Village at Carver on Moury Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators say two men showed up at the complex to visit one of the residents, got into a fight, then shot each other.
"For that matter, it could be anybody, like, somebody can come from another place and come over here and start violence over here that we can't control is unthinkable," Welch said.
Police say the incident was contained to one apartment. No one else was involved. Detective spent the day sorting out what started the fight.
"Obviously, we have to interview any witnesses, people that may have seen or heard anything, the argument so it's just really talking to the people who heard or saw anything," said Lt. Charles Hampton with the Atlanta Police Department.
"My biggest worry is when I get off work, me coming home and being safe," said neighbor Yolanda Rhoden. "It's not good. Not a good situation. People need to look out for each other and treat each other better."
Detectives spent hours out here interviewing neighbors, hoping one of them overheard the argument.
Police have still not released the name of the second man involved in the shooting.
