POLK COUNTY, Ga. — Officials said a person was killed when a home exploded in Polk County Saturday morning.

The explosion happened at a home on Winkle Road in Cedartown.
Channel 2′s Michell Newell at the Polk County Fire Department, where firefighters told her they heard a large boom that they initially thought was thunder.
Firefighters told Newell that the victim was a woman in her 60s who lived in the home.

Landon Hendrix with the Polk County Fire Department said the house was blown off its foundation and clear across the road.
Family members were gathered at the site Saturday night, where debris littered a huge radius.
“It was nothing like I’ve ever seen before, very devastating,” Hendrix said. “I hate it for the family. For the loss.”
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said investigators can’t rule out propane as a cause of the explosion, though the official cause has not been determined.
