1 killed, several injured after 2 boats collide during south Georgia fishing tournament

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. — A boat crash over the weekend in south Georgia left one man dead and several people injured.

Bainbridge Public Safety said two boats collided around noon Saturday at the Earle May Boat Basin Park. The accident happened during the Florida B.A.S.S Nation Junior/High School Anglers Tournament.

One of the boats involved in the crash was participating in the tournament while the other was not, according to WTXL-TV.

One person died as a result of the crash. WXTL-TV reported at least three others were injured.

“Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the anglers, boat captains, and everyone associated with the tournament,” the public safety department said in a release.

Rest in PEACE buddy, until we meet again on GODS Golden Shores,” the league wrote on Facebook.

Bainbridge Public Safety said the accident has been turned over to the Department of Natural Resources Critical Response Team. It’s unknown as of Monday morning the conditions of the people who were injured.
