12 injured in MARTA bus accident

ATLANTA — Twelve people are recovering after being hurt in a crash involving a MARTA bus Thursday night.
 
Police told Channel 2's Matt Belanger that a driver ran a stop sign and caused the crash.
 
The bus crossed the double yellow line and hit a third vehicle before ending up off the side of the road.
 
"I look down the street and see the whole street is blocked," said Keith Clark a witness.
 
Cellphone video taken moments after the crash shows police and paramedics swarming the scene at Delowe Drive and West Woodbury Avenue in East Point around 6 p.m. Thursday.
 
"The driver, you could tell, she was really in shock," Clark said.
 
First responders boarded the crashed bus to help passengers. Medics also tended to those injured in a silver car.
 
"This other woman was coming from this cross street here and did not stop for the stop sign," Clark said.
 
East Point police say the driver of the silver car ran a stop sign and crossed into the bus' path. The bus and car collided, and the impact forced the bus into oncoming traffic where it hit a black SUV.
 
A MARTA representative told Belanger 12 people were hurt in the incident. Eight of those people were on the bus and four in the silver car.

Their injuries are not life threatening.
 
"I actually spoke to a rescue worker and he said mostly bumps and bruises because I asked him is everybody all right," Clark said.
 
Police charged the driver of the car that allegedly ran the stop sign.
