FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A family and a community are mourning the death of a boy who died days after he was hit by an SUV in Forsyth County.

The 13-year-old was with his father while he was edging the sidewalk on Kelly Mill Road around 6:30 p.m on June 16. The sheriff’s office said an Infiniti QX56 failed to negotiate the curve and hit the boy and his father. The SUV then drove off, authorities said.

The boy’s father, who received a leg injury, tried to help his son but his injuries were too severe.

The teen and his father were transported to a local hospital. The boy was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with life threatening injuries.

Sadly, the 13-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries this past weekend.

The driver of the SUV was later found and is currently in a facility, sheriff’s officials say. Once released, she will be charged with hit-and-run resulting in death, vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane, DUI, reckless driving and driving too fast for conditions.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family. According to the GoFundMe, the boy was named Leonardo Camacho. His family is asking for financial help and prayers during this very difficult time.
