14-year-old arrested after threatening shooting at LaGrange High School

LAGRANGE, Ga. — LaGrange Police said they have arrested a 14-year-old student who made threats against LaGrange High School via social media.

Police said that the LaGrange Police Department, as well as administration officials at the high school, got a Snapchat message threatening a school shooting on Thursday.

The threat also was shared with other students and parents of students throughout the Troup County School System. Numerous students did not go to school or checked out early based on the threats.

“On Sept. 16, 2021, the LaGrange Police Department and LaGrange High School Administration were vigilant in their efforts to ensure that no student at LaGrange High School was ever in any danger while an investigation was conducted to identify the source of this threat,” police said.

The 14-year-old student was detained while at school, taken to the police department and charged with terroristic threats and acts and disruption of school.

Police are urging anyone with any more information to call them.

“We also urge all students to refrain from acts such as these, as these threats are not jokes and will lead to your arrest as well as internal consequences from the school,” police said.
