15-year-old charged in 14-year-old girl’s death

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Marietta police say a 14-year-old girl was killed after she was attacked by another teenager Wednesday night.

Police said the attack happened near 1805 Roswell Road around 8:20 p.m. A teen called 911 saying that he and his 14-year-old girlfriend were being attacked by another teen with a knife.

The teen told emergency officials that he and his girlfriend, identified as Janina Valenzuela, got separated during the attack. He said he tried to find her but was unable, and that she had been missing for about two hours before he called 911 for help.

Detectives began searching for the girl that night. Early Thursday morning, authorities found the suspect, identified as 15-year-old Brayan Segura, and took him into custody for questioning.

Later Thursday morning, Valenzuela’s body was found in a nearby creek on Roswell Road.

Authorities charged Segura as an adult, and was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on murder, aggravated assault and concealing death charges.
