15-year-old Georgia girl drowns at man-made beach after wading into deep end

EMANUEL COUNTY, Ga. — A 15-year-old Georgia girl drowned at a man-made beach in Emanuel County Sunday, according to WRDW.

The victim, who has not been identified, was visiting Palm Beach Island with her friends when the group waded out into the deep end.

The victim was not able to swim and went under, according to the Emanuel County coroner.

The victim’s friends tried to save her, but couldn’t. Rescue crews recovered the girl’s body about 45 minutes later. EMS tried to revive her on the way to the hospital, but were unable to.

Palm Beach Island is a man-made water park with slides and sandy beaches. It has been the county’s watering hole since 1978. It’s unclear how deep the water is at its deepest point.
