2 cited after bringing “pet” fawn into Georgia Walmart, sheriff says

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. — Two people are in hot water after they brought their “pet” fawn into a Georgia Walmart.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said they got a call about the baby deer at an Augusta-area store.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office called Game Warden Saxon Campbell, who was able to track the two people down and confiscate the deer.

The deer was then turned over to a local licenses wildlife rehabilitator. Both people were cited for being in possession of wildlife without a permit.

“This is a good time to remind everyone that just because you find a fawn “abandoned” by its mother, it most likely has just been left alone until she returns and should never be moved,” the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said.
