JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ga. — A Jackson County man killed his wife of 20 years and their 13-year-old son Wednesday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The victims were shot at a home on Gordon Street in Jefferson, GBI Special Agent Mike Ayers said. They were identified as 42-year-old Andrea Reeves and her son, Austin.
Reeves' husband, Marty, has been charged in the deaths. The 47-year-old faces two counts of malice murder.
Jefferson police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 10:15 a.m. Neighbors spoke to Channel 2's Tom Regan as investigators processed the crime scene.
"Whatever the reason is, they didn't have to kill anybody, especially the child," neighbor Renee Higginbotham told Regan.
Investigators said they found two weapons in the home, but wouldn't say if they were used in the shooting.
"It does appear that the person who's responsible for this is in custody and that no one else was involved, and there is no further danger to the community," Ayers said.
