2 workers from Georgia day care found dead on same day from COVID-19

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. — Two co-workers at the same Georgia day care died on the same day from COVID-19.

Bulloch County Deputy Coroner Richard Pylant told Channel 2 Action News that both Manequeia Freeman and Leslia McClain were found dead in their respective homes on Aug. 23. Pylant said they were unvaccinated.

The two worked at Sugar and Spice day care in Statesboro.

Pylant said that police were called to the homes of Freeman and McClain for a welfare check after neither had been heard from. Pylant said the two had been dead for at least a day.

A total of four employees became infected with the virus, Pylant said. One other is hospitalized. The fourth, who has been vaccinated, is doing well and is expected back to work.

According to Facebook posts, Freeman leaves behind a young child and McClain also has two children.

A total of 69 people in Bulloch have died from COVID-19, according to the state of Georgia.

According to WJCL-TV, Statesboro leaders approved a measure earlier this week to offer $10,000 in incentives in an effort for more people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
