2 Georgia men facing charges for illegally killing nearly 11-foot gator

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. — Two Georgia men are facing charges after officers said they illegally shot and killed an alligator near Augusta.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources got a tip that two men were trying to load a large alligator into the back of a pickup truck near the Lock and Dam Park in Richmond County on April 30.

DNR officials said said that in their haste to load the nearly 11-foot alligator in the back of the truck, the poachers also busted out the truck’s back window.

Officers charged two men with hunting alligators out of season.

Last year’s gator season in Georgia was from late August to Early October. People who want to participate in the annual hunts are required to apply for a permit.
