ATLANTA — Two people are in the hospital with burns after flames destroyed their home.
When firefighters first arrived to the home on Harper Road in southeast Atlanta, flames were shooting from the front door and windows. After putting out the fire, a few hot spots flared up and crews had to hose down the rood of the carport.
The assistant fire chief of the Atlanta Fire Department said firefighters had a hard time getting the fire under control because things stored in the carport made it more difficult to get to the fire.
"There was some obstruction getting into the house, they were able to get to seed of the fire and get a relatively quick extinguishment," Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wessels said.
Fire crews said the personal items stored in the carport also helped fuel the fire.
Neighbors told Channel 2's Darryn Moore a couple came running out of the home. Firefighters said the pair suffered smoke inhalation and burns to their faces.
Investigators have yet to determine a cause.
