2 killed in Fayette County house fire

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — Fire investigators are working to determine what caused a house fire in Fayette County Friday that killed a husband, wife and five dogs.

Flames broke out at the home on Grant Road in Brooks just before 8 a.m. Firefighters say 75 percent of the home was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived.
By the time firefighters were able to get inside, they found Robert and Tommie Sue Ison dead in their bedroom. Family members said five of their beloved dogs also perished in the fire.
“They’re both just really good people. They’ve taken care of me my whole life,” said the couple’s daughter Rebecca Ashmore.
Firefighters said one of the couple’s daughters left the home early Friday morning to take her children to school. When she got back, she found smoke pouring out of the house.
Ashmore said her father ran Ison’s Wrecker service and towed just about everyone in Fayette County. Friends and family gathered outside the family’s home, offering condolences.
She said she has always been close with her dad, but just recently became close with her mom.
“Me and my mom actually became really close here recently. It’s kind of like maybe she knew something was going to happen. I don’t know,” said Ashmore.
Family said the Isons didn’t have life insurance.
Those wishing to help the family with funeral  expenses can contribute at any Wells Fargo bank to the Bobby and Susie Ison Donation Fund.
