ATLANTA,None — Two people were killed in a shooting and crash with a MARTA bus on Sunday.
The crash happened at the intersection of Barge and Campbellton roads in southwest Atlanta. Several people are recovering from injuries.
Atlanta police detectives said it all started when someone opened fire on the victims during a robbery. The robbers carjacked and robbed three people inside an SUV on Susan Lane, police said. Then, the SUV crashed several blocks away.
"They hit a MARTA bus head-on. We do believe the driver of the vehicle was struck with gunfire and subsequently died of those injuries at Grady hospital," Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said. "Our other victim most likely died of the impact of the auto accident."
The driver's relative, Margaret Smith, said the other victim was the driver's boyfriend, and the survivor was her son. Police are hoping the boy can provide them with information to catch the carjackers.
Four MARTA passengers were also hurt and hospitalized, police said.
