The shooting took place in the parking lot of a residence hall on Piedmont around 9:30 Monday night.
Georgia State police recovered a gun and large amount of marijuana in the student's backpack.
"This is extremely concerning that we have a student that may have been engaged in the selling of drugs, with a firearm also,” Chief Carlton Mullis said.
Police said Rhoden lived in the dorm at Piedmont Avenue.
The two people in the car were not students.
There is a gate around the lot and security cameras, but anyone can just drive in.
Police are working the shooting at Piedmont and Ellis. Shooter and victim transported to Grady. We will post more information as it comes in
