2nd person arrested for shooting father and kidnapping Haralson County child last week

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. — Haralson County Sheriff’s deputies said a second person wanted in a shooting and kidnapping incident on Feb. 4 is now in their custody after a week-long search.

Deputies said 40-year-old James Benjamin Hefner was found and arrested by U.S. Marshals in Calhoun County, Alabama, on Thursday. Hefner is facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting incident.

On Feb. 4, Channel 2 Action News reported on a shooting incident that left Lee Dobbs with a gunshot wound. According to deputies, the estranged mother of 4-year-old Brayden Dobbs came to the home with someone else, shot Lee Dobbs and took off with Brayden.

The mom, Anitritte Dobbs, was located along with Brayden a few hours later in Douglas County. Anitritte Dobbs is facing aggravated assault charges.

Dobbs is being held at the Haralson County jail without bond. Deputies said Hefner will be booked into the Haralson County jail. They also said the investigation is still active and ongoing with further charges expected.
