ALBANY, Ga. — A family is mourning the loss of a 4-year-old who fell into a Georgia river during a weekend fishing trip.
Albany police and fire departments responded to a drowning at the Flint River around 2:41 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, family members told officials that the child fell in the water while they were fishing.

Crews began searching for the boy and spotted him around 5 p.m. First responders tried performing CPR, but they couldn’t revive him.
Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler identified the boy as Daniel Kennedy James Cunningham, according to WALB-TV.

The station reported that Daniel’s father jumped into the Flint River and tried to save his son before first responders arrived.
WALB-TV reported that Daniel’s body was found three miles from where the family had been fishing.
An autopsy will be performed to confirm the cause of death.
