BLACKSHEAR, Ga. — A 5-year-old girl in Blackshear, Georgia was killed Sunday night when a monument fell on top of her.

Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright said the girl, identified as Bella Bennett, was playing with her sister at the Lee Street Resource Center around 7:45 p.m.

The children were playing on a stone monument in front of a flagpole when the monument fell on Bella, crushing her.

Bella was taken to the hospital and later flown to a children’s hospital in Jacksonville, where she died early Monday morning.
Blackshear is in far southeast Georgia, near Waycross.
