SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A 55-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon when a tree fell on his Sandy Springs home.
According to police, the large tree broke and fell on the man’s Hardeman Road home while he was in bed.
The man’s name has not been released.
The victim's neighbor said he was devastated to hear what happened.
"He was a real nice guy. He was that person who every time you saw him would just say hi," Tyler Peck said.
Peck said he works in the tree removal business and warned his neighbor that the tree looked unhealthy.
"People love their trees and there's nothing you can say or do about it," he said.
Authorities are urging people to sleep on lower floors Monday night if they have trees near their home.
Until Irma moves completely out, it's expected more trees will fall.
