CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Two College Park police officers were shot Saturday in a restaurant on Old National Highway, and police are still looking for the shooter.

Police said the man got into a gun battle with a third officer that same day while in the parking lot of the Red Snapper restaurant, Deputy Chief Ferman Williford said.

"He fired the shots real quick and ran out the door," Williford said. "There was a short gun battle outside the restaurant with other officers."

Channel 2's Tony Thomas learned that one officer was shot in the stomach, but is expected to be OK. The second officer, who was also shot inside the restaurant avoided serious injury when a bullet hit his radio.

Authorities are seeking Kendarrious Chester, 22, in connection with the incident, Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said.

The incident began after officers got a call about a suspicious person near the restaurant.

Officers soon learned that Chester had gotten into an altercation with his girlfriend and took her car.

"Chester was wanted on an aggravated assault charge out of Atlanta," Williford said.

Williford told Thomas that court records indicate Chester skipped out on an April hearing where he was expected to plead guilty to assaulting his uncle.

In the Red Snapper incident, Chester opened fire when officers confronted him, authorities said.

Several agencies have spent the last few days searching for Chester and have gotten a few tips that did not pan out.

There is now a $5,000 reward for the capture of Chester, who is considered armed and dangerous, Hill said.

Police think he may be getting help from family or friends.

"I think it's likely,” Williford said. “It's possible we need to get him in, though, before he hurts somebody else, or before he gets hurt. Don't know what's going to happen next."

Chester is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 152 pounds, Hill said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 770-477-4479 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.

Police say the search for Chester won't stop until he's in custody.
