8-foot gator removed from fenced-in Georgia back yard after putting up a fight

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Houston County family got quite the surprise over Mother’s Day weekend when they walked into their backyard and found a gator that was more than eight feet in length.

The gator, which authorities said, “was a fighter,” somehow got into the fenced-in yard.

Bibb County Animal Enforcement was called in to help.

“Officer Rebecca Galeazzo and crew responded to help assist in the capture of the gator,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Authorities were able to wrangle the gator and “release it unharmed back into the wild.”

There are approximately 200,000 to 250,000 alligators in Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Resources.
