Police: Woman with knife shot, killed by officers near Northview High School

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Officers shot and killed a woman they say had a knife near a high school in north Fulton County on Saturday.

“I was just sitting on my porch at about 7:30 this morning,” neighbor Todd Buchanan said.

He lives in the neighborhood that turned into a crime scene early Saturday morning. Officers got a 911 call from an address on Windherst Lane about a demented person with a knife.

They say Shurki Ali Said, 36, threatened a family member with the weapon.

Police caught up with the woman just down the street at Abbotts Bridge and Sweet Creek roads.

"I heard the siren first from the police and then heard three pops followed by two shortly after that," Buchanan told Channel 2's Lauren Pozen.

Police told Channel 2 Action News they told the woman multiple times to drop the knife she had, but she didn't comply. That's when two officers fired their weapons.

“Some type of altercation occurred at that point and shortly there after, shots were fired,” Capt. Chris Byers, with the Johns Creek Police Department, said.

The woman was flown to a nearby hospital where police say she died of her injuries.

As for Buchanan, he told Pozen this is something he didn’t expect to happen in his neighborhood.

“I tell you, it is a little too close to home. Scary,” Buchanan said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident. The officers who fired the shots, are on administrative leave until the investigation is wrapped up.

The case will then be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
