ALPHARETTA, Ga. — An Alpharetta high school marching band is getting a chance at a performance of a lifetime.

As Channel 2's Mike Petchenik found out, what the King's Ridge Christian School band lacks in musicians, it more than makes up for in heart and determination.

Band director Kate Burkhart and some of her students told Petchenik they weren't sure they could pull it off with just a small group.

"All public schools have a marching band. I thought it was really weird that our school didn't have one," band member Breann Prophete said. "I didn't think marching band was possible with nine people."

"I had a bunch of friends in marching band over in Milton and I thought it was the coolest thing to be able to play your drums in that kind of an outlet," band member Ethan Scott told Petchenik.

"Our first year, we were just a pep band that played in the stands," Burkhart said. "They asked, 'Can we march? Can we do a halftime show?'"

The band has marched in local parades, but this Thanksgiving, the little band that could is getting a chance to go big.

It is joining forces with several other smaller schools to march in the annual Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"We play at our Friday night football games.  We also do special events, like our pep rallies," Burkhart said. "By combining with three other schools, we get to now have a band trip and a performance of a lifetime."

As a result of four years of hard work and lots of practice, the Fighting Tigers will begin their march Thanksgiving morning.
